Bar Room Ruck

16 Dec

Ok, almost two month since I last posted a new piece of writing…must be losing my touch! I think it needs something at the end of the choruses, maybe some repetition, but it’ll do for now! 🙂

(Verse one)
Cheap shades, a tight shirt, and some cowboy boots.
All I’m thinking is “damn that girl looks cute”.
And I wanna take you home and kiss you, that’s the truth.
Time to lose those Daisy Duke’s.

(Pre chorus)
Yeah, something’s gonna go down.
Some guy’s coming at me through this country crowd.
Swinging his fists and shouting “bro what’s up,
You’re gonna start a bar room ruck.”

(Chorus)
Damn, it all went down.
That big SOB, well he went to town.
Throwing me through tables and chairs ’til I gave up.
I guess he won that bar room ruck.

(Verse two)
Looking at your legs I’m like “hey what’s up”.
The guy looking at me says don’t push your luck.
But I’m picking up this honey because, damn, who gives a fuck.
Guess time for a bar room ruck.

(Pre chorus)
Yeah, we’re heading outside.
Gonna kick some ass across the Georgia line, tonight,
Yeah that big guy pushed his luck.
When he started a bar room ruck.

(Chorus)
Damn, it all kicked off.
That big SOB got his jaw dislodged.
When I threw him through a table and he put his hands straight up.
I guess I won that bar room ruck.

(Bridge)
Now you’re riding shotgun, girl it’s no big thing.
Gonna pull into a honky tonk and watch you sing.
Hoping that some guy doesn’t come and try his luck.
‘Cause it’ll start a bar room ruck.

(Chorus)
Damn, it’ll all go down.
If some big SOB, tries to go to town.
I’ll be throwing him through tables and chairs ’til I he gives up.
You know I’ll win that bar room ruck.

Annabelle

21 Jul

(verse 1)
Annabelle dreams that she’s dancing with him.
At prom night just two months from now.
Not stuck in this hospital bed by herself.
Hoping for a miracle, some way and somehow.

But her legs are all broken, her body still bruised.
Thanks to that drunk man at the steering wheel.
All that she wants is just one more chance.
A chance to be with him, for her heart to heal.

Annabelle knows that he won’t look at her.
The same way he used to just one week ago.
Damaged and unable, reliant from now on.
The pretty young prom queen, poor Annabelle knows,

(Chorus)
The fairytale is over, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on the pillow, like river run dry.
As lightning flashes in Annabelle’s eyes.

(verse 2)
Annabelle dreams of a magical place.
Full of dragons and castles, and a handsome young prince.
Bareback on his white horse, he holds out his hand.
Come with me princess, we’ll ride with the wind.

But she spends her days crying, cursing the past.
Lays awake at night singing that old lullaby.
Dreaming of running far away from here.
But the same question repeats, she keeps asking why.

The doctor came over one week before prom.
Asked Annabelle how she’s feeling today.
I brought you a present, open it when you want.
She said thank-you I’ll leave it for now if I may.

(Chorus)
Because she thinks it’s over, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on the pillow, like river run dry.
As lightning flashes in Annabelle’s eyes.

(bridge)
Prom night arrived, Annabelle’s sat in her wheelchair.
Thinking about a life she’d rather not bear.
Looking at her graduation photo, thinking it’s not fair.
The doorbell resounded, before her heart could tear.

(verse 3)
He turned up with roses and black rented tux.
She knew that she looked like an absolute mess.
He said, did you get it, the package I sent?
Annabelle opened the present and pulled out a dress.

You know I can’t go, not sat in this chair.
These damn broken legs just won’t set me free.
He said, Annabelle it doesn’t matter where we are.
As long as you’ll say that you’ll dance with me.

(Chorus)
The fairytale’s begun, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on her cheeks for the happiest of things.
As Annabelle dances with her handsome prom king.

I Do

27 May

I asked you if you wanna get a drink tonight.

Maybe take a walk under the Broadway lights.

You said “I do”. You said “I do”.

I said do you want to grab a bite to eat.

You can jump in to my Cadillac’s shotgun seat.

You said “I do. I really do”.

I polished up my buckle, dusted off my boots.

Thinking about how good my life would be with you.

If you said “I do”. I’ll say it too.

And we’re like, “hell yes”, what a perfect night.

Dancing with each other under the moon light.

Hell yes, we’re gonna make it through.

‘Cause you’re Juliet and I’m like Romeo with you.

And when you asked me if I love you I said.

I do.

Baby do you remember that cowgirl hat.

We found abandoned that day at the laundromat?

You said “Darling you know I do”.

You wore it on that night that you said to me.

You’d been offered a job down in Mississippi

Girl I knew you had to go.

I felt my heart slow.

Days turned to months since I next saw you.

Thinking I don’t think Skype will get me through.

But it’ll have to do.

And I’m like “hell yes” what a god damn fight.

I’ll drive down to see you if it takes all night.

Hell yes, I’m gonna make it to you.

Because Juliet’s just Juliet without her Romeo.

And when I tell you that I love you, you’ll say.

I do too.

When I walked through the front door of your little flat.

I tipped you that laundromat cowgirl hat.

You laughed and cried and said “Hey, gimme that.”

And I said “wait”…

I took you by the hand and got down on one knee.

And asked you if you want to spend you life with me.

You said “I do. I really do”.

And we’re like “hell yes” what a perfect life.

Dancing with each other under the moon light.

Hell yes we finally made it through.

‘Cause you’re Juliet and I’m like Romeo with you.

And when you asked me if I love you I said.

I do.

Canto Five – Final Showdown

For many days I wandered.
Since my wrenching loss.
Gathering an army.
Of which you’d dare not cross.

Warriors and witches.
And some demonic souls.
All joined together, with me.
All with a single goal.

To stop Sight and his people.
To bring back my dearest bride.
To be with me forever.
To stay close by my side.

But our journey’d not be easy.
Nor would it be too quick.
For Sight, I know would try.
To fool us with his tricks.

A gateway was the key.
To find the warlocks lair.
But much blood would be shed.
Before we made it there.

In my mind I saw her.
Every time I slept.
And on my lips I felt her.
Every time I wept.

In taverns we asked questions.
And received soldiers anew.
And my comrades they enjoyed.
A frolic or two.

But ne’er did they forget.
Their mission and their fight.
To stop the rising evil.
That would surely end all life.

Then one day we came across.
Through a clearing in the trees.
A place, I thought, I knew.
A village brought to its knees.

A memory attacked me.
From very long ago.
The young girl, I remembered.
Her body battered so.

No longer was there carnage.
No blood soaked into the mud.
No young and ravaged maidens.
No men turned into dust.

“We must leave here now.
Lest we bring to them.
More pain and more sorrow.
Like the past forsaken.”

But spotted we soon were.
Before our chance to part.
And descend on us they did.
Those men of noble heart.

“What business have you here.
You group of unlikely friends?
This is a place of peace.
We will fight and we’ll defend.”

“We mean you’re clan no harm.
We’re merely passing through.
A mission, we’re all on.
We have no gripe with you.”

Out the corner of my eye.
I saw one of my group.
A vampire like me.
Move towards their troupe.

It happened in an instant.
The shouting and the blood.
Blades and stakes were swinging.
Bodies trampled in the mud.

I shouted “Cease this madness!”
We’ll have no more death.
This must be Sight’s doing.
Putting us to the test.”

The man said “We know that name.
His promises are false.
If what you say is true.
We’ll help you above all else.

The vampire who attacked.
We cast out of our group.
And continued forth until.
We found something quite gruesome.

My shock it almost killed me.
At the sight of some poor maid.
Her still beautiful body.
Impaled on a stake.

Not through the heart, however.
But mouth up to her groin.
I thought only of one.
Able of such a crime.

Her body looked quite queer.
Hung in such a way.
We cut her down with haste.
And buried her in the clay.

We must be close, I thought.
For Sight to perform.
Such a vile, heinous act.
To scare us or to warn.

Proceed, we did, with caution.
Until we found a door.
Not entrance to a building.
But a solid stone wall.

I touched my hand on to.
The cold, abrasive stone.
And Marisa, I could feel her.
Scared and all alone.

I summoned forth the witch.
With whom we’d travelled far.
A spell he soon begun.
To gain entrance to the lair.

Minutes turned to hours.
As he worked in a trance.
When finally an explosion.
Ended dear Sight’s stance.

We charged into the tomb.
Spilling blood by the tonne.
Not a single demon stood.
By the time that we had done.

When the debris had settled.
And the shouts and screams had stopped.
I looked around with a grin.
At the bodies that had dropped.

In pools of blood they lay.
Whilst Sight just stood, aghast.
And next to him I saw.
My Marisa at long last.

“I’ve come to put and end –
To you, you fool, dear Sight.
Let Marisa play no part.
For I’m ready for our fight.”

Sight smiled and spread his arms.
And said “Welcome to my home.”
I was counting on this meeting.
I knew you’d not leave her alone.

I took Marisa in my arms.
She said “You must leave here.
For whatever comes next.
Is what we have to fear.”

And just like that I fell.
Just crumbled to the floor.
Sight cackled like a raven.
And said “It’s show-time, whore”.

But as the pain coursed through me.
I felt something start to flow.
A power kept well hidden.
Since a meeting long ago.

And rise I did to meet.
Sight’s confused and fearful eyes.
“Impossible” his voice quivered.
As I prepared for his demise.

“I’m sorry Sight, it’s over.
You cannot win this fight.
You days are all but numbered.
It’s the end of your foul blight.”

“I’m afraid I’ve come to realise.
And I know it to be true.
I am the Lord of Underland.
Dear Sight, I’m done with you.”

I kissed Marisa’s lips.
And we vanquished him with ease.
Sight’s evil reign was over.
T’was and end to his disease.

Epilogue

So with that our lives went on.
Without a single hitch.
The Underland was safe.
Since the taming of that witch.

United were all demon’s.
All men and warlocks too.
Harmony prevailed.
In all but a fair few.

And as for our friend Sight.
He was kept well away.
Deep within the pages.
Of a spell book he did lay.

Never to return.
From his eternal pyre.
Never to forget.
The day he crossed The Vampyre.

The Vampyre: Canto Four – The Lord of Underland

The American Honky Tonk Wannabe Association

Deep within the mountains.
Many centuries ago.
Was born a man called Michael.
Our saviour we now know.

Born of what, you’ll find.
Is not what you may think.
Not demon, man, or monster.
His name ne’er writ in ink.

Travelling through worlds.
Keeping peace where he did go.
Friends he made along the way.
Many enemies also.

One beast in particular.
Took an interest in this man.
T’was the beast called Lucifer.
The Lord of Underland.

Scrutinise our hero.
Curiously, he did so.
Waiting for the right time.
To lure in his foe.

Until that time he left –
Young Michael to his task.
Of ridding worlds of evil.
And those of beguiling masks.

One day he found a young boy.
Crying by the river’s mouth.
He asked “Dear boy, what’s wrong?”
His hand, trembling, pointed south.

Michael led the way.
The boy followed close behind.
Anxiety building up.

The Vampyre: Canto One – A Gothic Romance

18 May

Ok, I’ve just starting writing the final canto for The Vampyre, and to motivate me to get it finished by the end of the week I’m going to reblog the first four canto’s in back to back days, with the goal of having the final canto finished by the fifth day. Wish me luck!

The American Honky Tonk Wannabe Association

So, I published the incomplete version of this last night, luckily I don’t think anyone saw it before I deleted it – apologies if you did 🙂  Anyway, here’s take two!

My little homage to Stoker, Polidori, Le Fanu and Byron.

The Vampyre

T’was the evening of All-hallows.

The night that demons play.

Thick mist outside my window.

Plays cover to the fae.

Distant memories echo.

Like voices out of sight.

They beckon me to join them.

Into the cold, dark night.

The pull, I can’t escape it.

It draws me forth into –

A land unknown to mortal souls.

A land of wonder anew.

Curiously I follow.

The whisper in the wind.

Until I found myself lost.

To the song my temptress sings.

Reality or dream.

I could not tell you which.

For darkness doth conceal.

The evil demon’s trick.

Waiting in the shadows.

She continues her song.

Brighton – A Poem

4 Apr

Like the beach of an English South Coast City.
Your smile is as warm as the sands are pretty.

The seagulls singing high up in the sun-drenched sky.
Just look at the flowers whilst the songbirds chime.

Ice cream as sweet as your honeysuckle lips.
Eyes more enticing than newspaper wrapped chips.

Dodgem cars spinning and crashing like waves.
Like I’m trapped in this “want-to-be-lost” little maze.

An endless old pier full of wonder struck boys.
The board-walk cracks hiding mystery and joy.

Amusements and slots, losing coins by the bag.
Like I’m lost in that night full of longing we had.

So take a stab at this life, my sweet little Lily.
And come dance with me in our little south coast city.

Love, Love, Love

21 Mar

Thought I’d write a fun song for you for a change.

Love, Love, Love

I heard that you broke up with your boyfriend on Sunday.
You threw his necklace in the trash.
You told him “that’s the last time that you’ll get away with that”.
You slapped him once and he just laughed.

Later on I saw you walking across my front lawn.
You had a suitcase in your hand.
You said “Baby do you mind if I sleep here tonight?”
I shrugged and said “That sounds like a great plan”.

Because I love, love, love.
Love the way that your big blue eyes shine, shine, shine.
Shining like a thousand pretty stars, stars, stars.
Stars that shine in the sweet way that I love.
Shining in that sweet, sweet way I love.

Now we have been dating for three weeks and two days.
I’m pretty sure we’re gonna last.
You told me that you wish we’d got together sooner.
I said “Don’t worry ’cause the past is past”.
And you said:

I love, love, love.
Love the way you smile when I laugh, laugh, laugh.
Laughing at the same old silly things, things, things.
Things to share when we’re both in love.
Sharing things is something that I love.

Standing on the front porch, you put your hand in my hand.
You rest your head against my arm.
You tell me things like how we’re gonna have a family.
With a little house and a small farm.

And I love.
Love the thought of living there with you.
You and me and half a dozen kids, kids, kids.
Kids, and you, and me, our farm and love, love, love.
Love the way you smile when we laugh, laugh, laugh.
Laughing at the same old silly things, things, things.
Things like the way your blue eyes shine, shine, shine.
Shining like those pretty stars I love.
Sharing things is something that I love.

A Little Interlude

18 Mar

Sad and beautiful like the stars.

The end of a perfect day.

Constellations long since dead.

Still shining in that pretty way.
