Annabelle

21 Jul

(verse 1)
Annabelle dreams that she’s dancing with him.
At prom night just two months from now.
Not stuck in this hospital bed by herself.
Hoping for a miracle, some way and somehow.

But her legs are all broken, her body still bruised.
Thanks to that drunk man at the steering wheel.
All that she wants is just one more chance.
A chance to be with him, for her heart to heal.

Annabelle knows that he won’t look at her.
The same way he used to just one week ago.
Damaged and unable, reliant from now on.
The pretty young prom queen, poor Annabelle knows,

(Chorus)
The fairytale is over, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on the pillow, like river run dry.
As lightning flashes in Annabelle’s eyes.

(verse 2)
Annabelle dreams of a magical place.
Full of dragons and castles, and a handsome young prince.
Bareback on his white horse, he holds out his hand.
Come with me princess, we’ll ride with the wind.

But she spends her days crying, cursing the past.
Lays awake at night singing that old lullaby.
Dreaming of running far away from here.
But the same question repeats, she keeps asking why.

The doctor came over one week before prom.
Asked Annabelle how she’s feeling today.
I brought you a present, open it when you want.
She said thank-you I’ll leave it for now if I may.

(Chorus)
Because she thinks it’s over, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on the pillow, like river run dry.
As lightning flashes in Annabelle’s eyes.

(bridge)
Prom night arrived, Annabelle’s sat in her wheelchair.
Thinking about a life she’d rather not bear.
Looking at her graduation photo, thinking it’s not fair.
The doorbell resounded, before her heart could tear.

(verse 3)
He turned up with roses and black rented tux.
She knew that she looked like an absolute mess.
He said, did you get it, the package I sent?
Annabelle opened the present and pulled out a dress.

You know I can’t go, not sat in this chair.
These damn broken legs just won’t set me free.
He said, Annabelle it doesn’t matter where we are.
As long as you’ll say that you’ll dance with me.

(Chorus)
The fairytale’s begun, like an old lullaby.
Her daddy once sang before he said goodbye.
Tears on her cheeks for the happiest of things.
As Annabelle dances with her handsome prom king.
